Millerton straddles the New York and Connecticut borders. It is charming, quirky and surprisingly hip. It is home to Gilmor Glassworks. Stop in to watch artisans create the beautiful and collectible works for which Gilmor is known. You may also visit their adjoining shop and purchase glassware, jewelry and unique lamps. New York City’s Aperture Press, publishers of rare and vintage photographs and photography books, also makes it’s home in Millerton. New York City’s Irving Farm Coffee has opened a store in Millerton where you can stop on your way to catch a movie at the Movie House in Millerton. Manna Dew Café, Simmons Way, the Hamilton Inn and Taro’s offer a variety of dining alternatives. There are numerous additional and excellent restaurants within a fifteen minute drive.

Millerton has several amazing vintage and antique stores including B. W. Eagle Eye, which carries an extensive collection of vintage clothing and jewelry that complements it’s contemporary clothing and housewares, Johnsons, a well-known destination for those searching for the perfect piece of vintage furniture, and The Millerton Antique Center, home to two floors of antique dealers. The Harlem Valley Rail Trail, a former rail-bed, provides great cross-country skiing and is a favorite with hikers and bikers as well. 

Skiers love the location, just 30 minutes from the Catamount and Mohawk Mountain ski resorts. Taconic State Park,  provides a variety of summer and winter outdoor adventures. Other sports activities close by include golf, horseback riding, and bowling. 

Within reasonable range lies The Tanglewood Music  festival in Stockbridge, MA.  Bard's Richard B Fisher Center for the Performing Arts, designed by Frank O. Gehry, is the newest Hudson Valley venue for exciting theater, dance, music, and opera.

The Culinary Institute of America, holds cooking classes and offers a tempting opportunity for fine dining.

Nearby, Millbrook has a nationally recognized center for ecological study, with two high-level research facilities: Rockefeller University's branch devoted to the field study of birds and the Institute for Ecoststem Studies (IES). There are easy trails for walkers and hikers through pine forest, past fern glens and old hayfields, and along Wappinger Creek. The institute's offers Continuing Education Programs year-round. Classes from weekend seminars—on Garden Photography to Wild Plant Identification and Spring Mushrooms--that are open to the public for small fees.

For those who enjoy car racing, Lime Rock Racetrack in Connecticut offers many a thrill. 

Wine tasters will want to spend the afternoon visiting Dutchess County’s Millbrook Vineyards and Winery, the Clinton Vineyards, and the Cascade Mountain Vineyards and Winery.

Trowbridge is close to a number of fine Boarding and Preparatory Schools including Hotchkiss, Salisbury, Millbrook, Kildonan, Berkshire, Maplebrook, and Indian Mountain making it the perfect place to stay when visiting children or your alma mater. 

It is also convenient to many summer camps making it the perfect place to stay when coming for parents' weekends.
